- Oh, society is what it is, a bit sinister, a bit seamy. But I've heard there are beautiful things in it too. Why not paint them? I tried. I painted flowers, women, children. It's like I painted the crime right into it. I'd see a crime in a rose.
- It's called painting with a palette knife.
From "Port of shadows" by Marcel Carné
The idea of this show is not to copy such unique scenes of what has now become cult movies, nor to imitate the inimitable of these famous actors. It is actually about adapting them for the stage and our cast. In the process we help people to discover or rediscover part of the history of French cinema. This is an homage to cinema on stage!
French is a very rich language. In some scenes you will hear language that honours a writer or genre, or depicts a particular time or place. We have tried our best to translate these ideas and expressions for the enjoyment of our English speaking audience.
